Documenting My Coding Journey: Progress, Struggles, and Learning Experiences

I’ve been learning to code on and off for the last couple of years, I’ve had interviews, received offers and completed courses, but still never felt “ready”. I admittedly regret a few of my past decisions; not taking some great opportunities, valuing what I thought I wanted over what would have actually been beneficial for me. However, I believe it’s never too late to start again.

It’s now July 2024, and I’ve been consistently learning to code for the last month and a half. Previously, my learning has been sporadic and I’ve had no real routine, which I now know is where I was falling short. I’ve fallen into the trough of sorrow too many times to count, I’ve started from scratch over and over again, all because I didn’t set myself a routine. This time, I’m benefitting greatly from simply waking up earlier, and dedicating the first few hours of my day to learning to code.

I’m currently participating in the #100Devs software development bootcamp, this covers HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git and Github, Node.js and MongoDB. As well as this, I use Codecademy to brush up on my knowledge and complete lessons, in which I also plan to use to learn Python and SQL. Aside from this, I’m learning how to use WordPress (stating the obvious, I know). I’m enjoying my learning journey this time around, and I feel as though I’m finally making progress. Learning how to learn and using Anki have been game changers for me, and now I feel more prepared than ever to learn how to code.

I’m really enjoying being able to learn on my own time and see others on the same journey as me, A couple of the most beneficial things I’ve learnt so far are learning how to learn and the power of networking. Now I’ll be honest, networking isn’t my strong suit just yet, and I have no clue where to start as I really struggle with “putting myself out there” (even my friends have berated me about this ). So I kind of feel like blogging my journey is that first step.

Anyway, as I continue to learn, I plan to document every step of the way. Every achievement and every struggle, whether big or small, every new step I take, or any steps I may take backwards. I’m looking forward to this journey, and I’m super excited to see where it takes me!
